wireless routers
#1
I'm moving out of town to an area with no hi-speed dsl internet access.
Thinking about getting a data card from AT&T or Verizon and sticking it into a router.
Noticed they both offer a usb version.

Can I plug it into my Airport Extreme via USB?
Anyone ever done this or something similar?

No, it won't work.

You will need to obtain an EV-DO router (or whatever your protocol may be) that can specifically handle the model of card that you end up getting.

You should find what you are needing here, or at least a good start on what to look for: http://3gstore.com/

...I have done plenty business with this company and they are great.

Thanks for the great input.

Now I'll just need to pick a provider. Sprint, Verizon, and AT&T all show coverage in the area with good, but not great service.

Go with Sprint for data. I have them and have had Verizon before. Sprint just can't be beat right now for data services overall - coverage, roaming agreements (so you can roam without fees if you end up traveling with your card), reliability, true unlimited data plan, and even though ATT has some faster service areas...not many...overall, with their coverage areas, Sprint is reliably the fastest.

However, it must be said that if this card plans to be stationery, which it sounds like it is, then you'll want to get the service that has the best speed for your exact area.
