I have to admit AOL was my first ISP. Starting back in the $20/mo unlimited days. I think it took less than a year to switch to one of the free ISPs, (we used both netzero and Garbersoft and maybe some others) so we could get a second phone line for the internet. When all the free ones went belly up, we went with a local company Sonic.net which was pretty good (for dialup).
I didn't get broadband till I went off to college. My parent's finally joined the broadband movement this January when they got Satellite. They're so far out in the stick that there's no DSL or Cable.

[quote davester]Well frankly, AOL was by far the ISP when they started out.
Can't argue with that.

... in other news today the Franklin Mint has announced limited production of gold plated buggy whips. Each whip will be hand serialized by a centenarian resident at the Golden Acres Retirement Home and Garden who fondly recalls the good old days of dirt roads and a one hour trip to town, 5 miles up the road. The whips will sell for $199.99 each WHILE THEY LAST!!!!!!!!

The 1st time I ever got online was with CompuServe on a 300 baud modem back in 1982.
The only time I ever used AOL was to get online & find something else.
