Can Sally Field Act?

[quote MGS_forgot_password]It's tough when your signature performance was Smokey and the Bandit.

Someone never saw her Gidget, Sister Batrille (spell-check ?) , or Norma Rae characters ?

I think of Steele Magnolias or Absence of Malice loooong before Smokey and the Bandit for her more memorable movie characters.

I'd hardly use "signature" for Smokey and the Bandit.
Is there a Smokey and the Bandit channel on cable I should know about ?

It's even tougher when somebody *thinks* your signature performance was Smokey and the Bandit.

add an excellent performance in Puncline to her better roles.

(but I still think of her as Sr. Betrille)

That's what's so great about her. She's given us a lot. Fun characters in fun TV shows like "The Flying Nun," and "Gidget." Amazing in-depth character study's like "Punchline," "Places in the Heart" (my favorite), and "Norma Rae," Cute, sassy characters in movies like "Smokey and the Bandit," mature, in depth characters like her turn in "Brothers and Sisters," and "er."

Who even watches "Smokey and the Bandit"?

She is great. Old Hollywood typecast her as gidget and by the time Old Hollywood bit the dust she was middle aged and those parts were hard to come by for women.

She is very good on "Brothers and Sisters".

Norma Rae was a great movie.
