Time Machine
#1
since Eudora crashed on me yesterday, I decided to try TM as a background constant; seems to be the way it works. I use iBackup for monthly bu and I'm never too far from home with that, until the Eu crash.
I've excluded all except folders that I use daily.
I assume that's the way it works? Are the files accessible any other way other than thru TM?
Since I started TM a few minutes ago, Sys Prefs are still "active". Should that be?

The files are stored on the drive as plain files.

But TM is much cooler, plus you can use TM while in Mail, iPhoto, etc to get specific items.

I ran TM overnight the first time and now it runs every hour. I don't notice it run, beside the icon in the menu bar, but some people have noticeable slow downs.

I use TM with my MBA backup to a 500G Time Capsule via WIFI. I do notice some, at times significant, slowdowns especially backing up large files. ADent, what machine are you on that you don't notice any slowdown?

is your Sys ™ prefs always launched?
I could, I assume, run this to an ext FW drive?

There's been a utility posted here a couple of times that will reduce the backups to once daily instead of hourly, although for some reason (at least for me) it backs up twice a day now. I can live with that.

On a related note, anyone know a way of telling TM not to try backing up every CD, DVD or other disk I mount?

TM saved my butt a few days ago when I screwed up my Lightroom database!
