Questions about surface coating on a TV
#1
Hello everyone,

I've got a nice little 13" Magnavox TV/DVD unit (a CRT) which I picked up locally, which I've noticed seems to have some marks on the surface of the TV. These marks don't come off with water or Magic Eraser. (They're sort of metallic-looking marks.) Question is, are the surfaces of TVs coated? Do I run the risk of scratches if I use something "stronger" than the Magic Eraser? Is there anything else I should try to get rid of the marks?

My Dad bought a floor model like that. He had three people look at it and they pretty much all said removing the marks would likely take off the anti glare coating. I kept on hoping that I would find someone to re-apply the coating for a decent price....

Filliam -- that's the question. IS there an anti-glare coating?

If you know anybody with a Dremel and a clean polishing wheel, put some fine polish on it and try buffing a spot way over on the edge.

Is this on the case or glass? Maybe solvent on the glass, acetone(finger nail polish remover) etc. Car detailing products, less abrasive first and going down to oxidation compound removers. Razor blade if on the glass also. Black duct tape is always fashionable.

It's on the glass. I just tried Brasso, and interestingly enough, it didn't do anything (but nor did it cause any damage)... peculiar, because you'd think the Brasso would abrade the stuff away if it were really on the glass.
