FOOLS, DON'T RUN IF YOU HAVE DIABETES: Free Accu-Chek Glucose Meter and 60 strips
#1
Rather walk slowly there, but note that you have to say that you use an Accu-Check product to get the free meter and 60 test strips

EDIT: the post might get moved to "freebies" so here is the direct link.

MAKE SURE YOU SAY YOU USE AN ACCU-CHECK product, otherwise you get denied.

You have to be an insulin user that uses an Accu-Chek meter (or say that you are).
This is the razor blade and handle business model.
You can get a free meter from at least a dozen places, the test strips are what cost you.
I don't use this type of meter, the strips are for a friend of mine who can't afford the 60 bucks a month on strips.
Also, Accu-Chek has the crappiest lancet devices.

I got around the exclusion on my second try, but based on your comment, BGnR, I'm wondering if their lancet system would be any better than the OneTouch Ultra 2 system that I was started on?

From the Accu-Check lancet system description, their claim of having the least amount of pain seemed worth trying out. The pain issue has prevented me from continuing to test, which I know I should be doing.

Any recommendations for dealing with the pain issue would be appreciated. Best device, method, etc?

GeneL I will only use BD Lancets with the Soft Touch lancet holder/tool. The lancet tool is secondary for me, it is the lancets are the key, change them daily, nothing worse than a dull lancet.
Where are you testing on your fingers??
Never test on the finger tip (too many nerve endings), test on the side of your finger tip.
Also, make sure your hands are warm, massage your hands and fingers to hasten blood flow.
I find that the "Pain Issue" is actually a "Fear Issue", this is from someone who took over two hours to work up the nerve to lancet myself for my first test.
Overcome the fear, you absolutely need to know your blood sugars on a daily basis.
If lancet finger pain is really an issue, get a secondary site meter like the Accu-Chek Compact Plus system.:
http://www.accu-chek.com/us/rewrite/cont...e_3257.htm
This is the one I use, not for the secondary site testing, but for the:
No Strip Coding.
No strip handling (Drum Loading of 17 strips).
Big Display. (Easy to read, even if you're legally blind!)
Easy One Handed operation.

Never pay for a meter, if your doctor won't get you a free one, get a doctor that cares about your health!

Thanks for your reply, BGnR.

I did try the "side of the finger tip" but that hurt too much for me.

Is there a difference in blood taken from other parts of the body?

I thought that my arm might be less sensitive or perhaps my tush?Big Grin

Yep, I'm a wuss when it comes to pain and now, based on the pain-related MRI that I just had, it looks like I'm in for a major issue involving surgery (might lose control of arms, legs, bowels…etc).

I'll probably post separately when I get more info and then ask for input, but for now I'm just depressed and very scared.

I'm afraid that at 70 my "use by" date may have expired.Sad
