MacPro pricing - 2.66 vs 3.0
#1
Apple has both. Is it worth $300 more to get the 3.0 with the bigger video card and extra superdrive?

As I understand it, the current 2.8s are roughly the same performance as the previous 3.0s. That swung the decision for me.

Yes the upgrades are well worth the $

so its

$2,810.92 for a (Apple) refurbed 3.0 (dual core) with dual opticals and bigger video card

vs.

$2,948.48 for a new (from Amazon) 2.8 (quad core) with 1 optical and a smaller video card.

(those prices are including another 8gb of ram of course)

Quad core! Optical drives are $50, and you can always add one later. The video card, however, is an expensive upgrade.

yeah. I was kind of leaning toward the new model. just b/c its new. and I have a couple opticals I could drop in. I just wanted to be fair with the comparison.

well the 2.8 quad core is $2200 at http://www.macconnection.com/IPA/Shop/Pr...ku=8252544

no rebates, tax, or shipping.

An extra 6 GB is $329 from our hosts.

I don't see where you're getting nearly 3 grand

That MacConnection deal is for ONE quad core processor. The Amazon deal is a DUAL quad core processor.

Two 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon Processors = $2598.49
+
4x2GB RAM modules from our sponsor = $349
=
$2948.48
