Will Apple bring out a $200 iPhone w/o some features?
#1
I'm reading in the financial news/speculation that Apple might bring out a $200 version iPhone...and the rivalry with iTouch. If they reduce the iPhone drastically Apple might do away with the iTouch...I don't think so because people can't use an iPhone like an iTouch unless they go with AT&T or swap Simms.

People can use an iPhone like an iTouch-- an iTouch is basically an iPhone without the telephony capability.

Regardless, I have no idea what Stevie has planned. But like everything electronic, prices drop. My first iPod was only 5G and $399. It was followed by a 10G for $499.

Apple *could* release a 2GB 'Phone for $200 (probably more like $250). I don't know what features it might eliminate. WiFi? That's a big part of the 'Phone's functionality.

We may know in just a few days.

You mean that in reverse, I think.

But yeah, the tendency is for capacity to increase, and features to improve, while prices drop.

That's why I got really excited when the iPhone was released. Looking at the iPod's history, it was easy to think "imagine what the iPhone will be like in four or five years?"

I hope so. Drop the wifi and internet and give me a 4GB iPhone for $200. Thanks, I'll buy!

Never happen!

There's already products out there that are exactly what you're asking for. Apple doesn't compete in the feature/price arena; never have and never will as that's for companies who want to sweat out razor thin margins and high volume. Apple plays in the "luxury" market where people are willing to pay significantly more for "image"/quality/useability, which is also more recession-proof than "commodities" where it's all about the cheapest price.

I'm guessing the current iPhone will be reduced to $200. and the newer version will be priced higher.

Something like:

MacBook/MacBook Pro

iPhone/iPhone Pro

Hey, my guess is as good as any analysts guess, right? Tongue
