So goes the rumor. iTunes 8 is supposed to be introduced then also. The date may or may not be correct, but I assume something is coming because about two weeks ago there was a big price reduction on refurbed current-gen iPod Classic models.
I hope they get rid of the "split" display (as in the image below). I really dislike that about the current models.

I don't care for the *that* split, either.
But I'd like a "screensaver" mode of album art and/or photos that could be set to display when the 'Pod is docked on AC or computer power.
What can Apple do to keep the iPod new and desirable, making us want to upgrade? And do so without making it an "everything but the kitchen sink" thing?
An 80G 'Pod is enough for me. LED/OLED screen? The lines of the Classic are nice, so it would be a shame to fatten it up.
Oh well, maybe Stevie will amaze me.

The "special pricing" started back around the end of June or early in July. That is when Apple ran out of the new previous generation iPods on the Clearance page. The only change in pricing since then has been for the refurbished 32 GB iPod Touch, reduced from $429 to $399. So I would not use that as any specific guide to new models coming out Sep. 9th.
On the other hand, Apple has come out with new iPod models most of the previous few Falls in the mid-September to mid-October time period. Usually about the time the Education Store Back-to-School promotion is winding down. So I expect that is still a possibility based on prior years.

I thought the price drop was more recent. It's too bad all the previous gen models are gone. When I bought refurbed previous gen iPod (end of December), there weren't any 80GB (or was it 60GB?) models available. They showed up a few weeks later, of course. I noticed that they had more of them sometime this summer for $179. Now it's the current gen only, I guess.
I can't get excited about album art the size of a postage-stamp. I don't miss the bulk and weight of LPs, but album art had a lot more potential at that size. Has anyone here ever seen the Jethro Tull Stand Up cover?

Very Cool! I am a fan of Jethro Tull, and did not know they had done that kind of thing back in the days of vinyl. Unfortunately, I only have CDs of their albums.
Those were the days, my friends.

Plus the protective sleeves often offered an opportunity for even more art, or at least lyrics. I loved LP packaging and still miss it.

I may still have my Stand Up LP somewhere. I salvaged my Sgt. Pepper and White Album LPs last summer.
