Sony DCR-HC52 or Flip Video?
#1
Trip to Europe coming up. My old bulky Sony D8 camcorder is not reliable, and my wife wants to a new one. Nothing professional is needed, and I was thinking about these:
Sony DCR-HC52 (miniDV) or Flip Video Ultra.
It seems the DVD and HD models are pricier than miniDV. The Flip is attractive, but will I be disappointed?

You may indeed be disappointed in the Flip. I use mine a lot, but its basically cell-phone quality video.

It is great as a quick video reference, but for more important video, I would find another compact video camera with better quality.

I have an earlier -HC58 I think and it is fine for an entry level knock around camera. I do own and older 3 chip Sony TRV-900 that still beats the pants off of it, and it is almost a decade old.

Get an SD tape machine and you'll be happy.
