Apple Mail "Rules" not working with IMAP account?
#1
Am I missing something.

Have switched to IMAP from POP because I access mail on multiple Macs. In doing so I created a series of IMAP folders that were analogous to the set of folders I had previously setup for local storage of incoming POP emails.

I then changed the rules to filter and direct the incoming mail to the IMAP folders instead of the LOCAL folders... so that again, the filtered mail would be available on all Macs used. I setup the *same* rules on all Macs, so that no matter which Mac accessed the mail first, it would be re-directed to the right IMAP sub-folder.

Problem is... the Rules don't seem to do anything at all? Does anyone else have Apple Mail setup and doing what I'm trying to do with an IMAP account. Am I missing a setting somewhere that forces evaluation of emails coming in under an IMAP system?

Thanks!

Jem, Rules definitely work with IMAP and Mail, so it's probably in how you've got those folders set up. I get confused each time we need to set up a new Mac here with their IMAP emails, so I'm not the perfect answerer for this, but check to see that the IMAP folders are showing up separately on the left-hand Mailboxes column; they should appear at the bottom, separately from your local folders. Also, while you may not be using GMail or DreamHost, check out these two links to see if they help with your setup:

Is new mail from your IMAP server showing up in your Inbox, or do you have to click on the Inbox folder specific to the IMAP account when you check that mail?

Did you confirm that the folders that you want to sort mail into actually exist on the server? It's very easy to end up with local folders by accident and sometimes Mail will encounter an error when attempting to create a folder on a server, but instead of reporting the error will (initially) act like everything is working fine.
