Can't get wireless internet access on sister's FIOS anymore
#11
Speaking of FIOS routers. Mine just went "Sneakers Up". For the past couple of days I had trouble connecting with an eMac that I just upgraded to Tiger. My first thought was Tiger was the culprit. I kept getting that self assigned IP. After a couple of swings through the menus and resetting of the router, everything would work. Finally nothing. This was for computers connected to the router via ethernet cable (a Windows and Mac computer and an ethernet connected laser printer). My wife's iBook using Airport was working just fine. She could also print to a wireless printer. (Yes I like gadgets). That really threw me. I finally called Verizon. As a sidenote I've always gotten great service from their tech folks. The tech got it down to the ethernet side was bad. They are sending me another router and it will be here on Monday. I put my ethernet connected computer on a USB dongel and that's what I'm now using.

Thanks for all the great suggestions.

I will try connecting via Ethernet the next time I'm over there. Maybe if I poke around inside the router's settings I can see more of what's what.

Any other suggestions would also be greatly appreciated.

I had similar problem. I think it's connected to IP assignment. In any case, I reset the router, (press the reset button with a pin in the back for a few seconds) and then I re-configured it. After reset it gets the SSID that is registered on a label at the back of the router. The wireless is on by default after reset, with WEP password that is also on the same label.
