Just saw and interesting movie Storm Center: Bette Davis
#1
The movie is a 1956 Hollywood's answer to McCarthy's war on subversives. Librarian won't take "communist" books off shelve. Whole town in an uproar. Bette gets fired and finally a little boy sets fire to the library which throws the baby out with the bathwater.

The town repents and will rebuild working together after seeing the error of their ways.

Kim Hunter, Brian Keith...many movies are subtle in their advocacy, but this is one like Stage Door Canteen that is a not so veiled a message.

Notice how Sam worded her description: "war on subversives." McCarthy's war was against American citizens who had done nothing wrong.

Over a half century later and some people think still McCarthy was right... well actually he was right - far right. He introduced vile, evil techniques of accusation by inference into government and American life.

He's been discredited by all but the most extreme political elements.

I think your assigning this attitude to ME is quite unfair. I lived thru the McCarthy era and I never agreed with it or his persecution of people. My wording was a description of the movie NOT MY attitude towards McCarthy's persecution of people. It was McCarthy's war on subversives not my war.

PLEASE Folks stop assigning YOUR OWN interpretation of what is people's minds and hearts from a string on the FORUM.
