Doers that include the body armor, Bradley fighting vehicle, and the bodyguards?

I guess you've never been to downtown Oakland.

I visit Compton about once a week to see friends, I feel safe and secure, I wouldn't go through downtown Oakland on a dare. I had to go there for work several times, I quit that job, and got a lower paying job at Mare Island.

The arena's not in Downtown Oakland.
In fact there's not much at all in Downtown Oakland.
There's no 'there' there.

You're much safer on either the BART or I-880 going to the Coliseum complex than you are on any SoCal Freeway.

I should qualify that: as long as there's not a Raiders game going on.

Oakland Arena is not in thee nicest part of Oakland by any stretch, but you just get off BART or I-880 and there you are. No real problems (except for the aforementioned Raiders nutballs).

Actual downtown Oakland (you know, where the tall buildings are) is fairly benign during the day. I haven't been there at night for a while, but didn't feel unsafe or anything. Now, I would not spend any quality time in East Oakland or West Oakland, that's for sure. Fruitvale also has its bad areas. Most of the neighborhoods north of I-580 are very nice, actually.
