Probs & quest's with Q emulator
#1
I'm trying to get the Q emulator to install Win98SE on my iMac G5. Q boots fine, I can make a guest PC OK. I made a disk image of a Win98 boot floppy (had to change .dmg to .img to get Q to recognize it). I can't get the install CD to run, neither the physical CD or an image of it seems to work. I get a DOS report of a fatal error that the system cannot read the CD.

The boot floppy image seems to boot fine -- I can run fdisk from it. DOS shows the QEMU hard disk image and the built-in SuperDrive as drive D.

When I change the DOS prompt from A:\ to D:\ D shows to be recognized. If I then run setup, the command is accepted, then a couple of seconds later the DOS prompt D:\_ shows back up but nothing further happens.

Help!

BTW, I did load XP Pro successfully reading directly from the Install CD in the SuperDrive (5 hours! I let it run overnight...) but then at log-in as Administrator, the validation fails. The installer took the validation code just fine.... that's when I decided to try 98.

Okay, so did you run a "format c:" after you did fdisk? That was a step that I kind of forgot about between doing fdisk and setup, and gave me some weird errors when trying to install from the disc image of Win98SE.

you may also want to try the forum at the qemu site under the Mac section--seems there are plenty of people over there that know what's going on as well.

good luck!
