72-pin SIMMs - will EDO/FPM work in non-EDO/FPM slots?
#1
I'm looking to increase the amount of ram I have in my Color LW 12/660 to the max of 40MB.

I see a fair amount of ram listed on ebay as EDO/FPM for 72-pin SIMMs. Will this work in non-EDO/FPM slots? If I remember correctly, macs didn't use EDO/FPM until we were using DIMMs.

OR

if you have 16MB SIMMs lying around - send them to me!

yes - at least for me they do/did.

Sometimes it will work. But if the memory logic circuits are not compatible, it could cause damage as in the case of the PowerMac 7200. It all depends on how the RAM is accessed and the connected read circuits.

I put edo in my quadra 660av way back, and it was good. don't know about a printer, but maybe you could find someone to trade? kj.

I have a known pair of 16's and another pair of unknown value 72pins if you need them. These are both tested (a few years ago) pulls from two Quadra 840-AVs I parted.

EDO will usually replace FPM (as EDO is actually a subset of FPM simms) But the only real exception that I know of is again, the 7200 already mentioned. Not sure about printer memory swaps though.
