but why is the choice to have children that use all public resources rewarded and the choice NOT to have children gets no benefits.

All public resources?

Anyway, maybe it's in society's best interest to propagate itself? And if you DON'T want to have children, isn't not having them the benefit? It's not like the tax breaks pay for all their food, clothing and education.

hey, i'm pro-kid but after the public educates and even often participates in the healthcare of kids, parents still get a deduction for dependents which translates to some assistance with your expenses.

I mean to say kids use all the typical resources like public education and free healthcare, and low income adults with children are more likely to get food and housing assistance (as opposed to single people. The tax break for low to middle income people with children is a good size deduction, as opposed to no deduction for childless people. If you are wealthy, you provide more for your children and have different views on what is "necessary costs" to raise them. A wealthy person does not think the deduction is much money, but this is relative to income.

While I like children, I chose not to have them, and my personal calculations show that the financial benefits don't balance with the cost to raise them. But many people do not feel the same way and/or do not provide all of the lifelong financial advantages for their children.

I would love to get a federal tax break and property tax break for NOT having children.

Lux, is it in societies best interest to propagate itself? That is dependent on personal motivations and distinct cultures, or feelings on overpopulation. I think many parts of the world would benefit from birth control, due to available personal resources, as well as geographic resources of food and water.
