Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
#1
'Anyone else watching this?

It's a remake of Fullmetal Alchemist. Allegedly, it parallels the manga more closely than the old 'toon.

I've caught up with it on Hulu. At first, I was just letting it play for background noise since it seemed to be basically the same stuff I'd already seen in the first series. I noticed they spelled out the rules of alchemy a bit more logically and they closed up a few plot holes from the other one. (I still have issues with calling what they do "alchemy"...)

In episode 5 they took a big departure from the original 'toon. The gap has been widening. By episode 15, it was going off in a way different direction and now at episode 26 I think it's heading for a more satisfying resolution than the first one.

If you enjoyed the first series, check out the new one.

...

BTW: There's new Inuyasha on Hulu, too.

Adult Swim is so lame lately (and I don't get it anymore anyway), it's nice to see these alternatives available.

How did you listen to it in the background? It isn't dubbed. Do you speak Japanese?
I agree on Adult Swim. They do have the new season of Venture Bros. just started though.

Thanks for the heads up.

I still watch Adult Swim for new episodes of Bleach and Moribito: Guardian of the Spirit. I'm giving Blood + a closer second watch too. Though with everything I watch being relegated to between midnight and 5am, I wouldn't be watching much at all without a DVR or at least a VCR.

I do know a little Japanese. Enough to get the gist of what was going on without an English dub.

But also, the first 4 episodes are basically recaps from the first series, so I worked at the computer or prepared dinner and glanced at the screen occasionally when it seemed that something interesting was going on.

If you've watched the original then everything up to that point is pretty much the same as before, if a bit out of sequence and missing some familiar scenes. It's easy to look away from the screen and still know what's going on.

(Edit) I just took a peek at the episode guide. It was actually the end of episode 4 that started things off in a new direction. Sorry. I mis-remembered.
