iTunes on laptop doesn't see my iPod
#1
I'm in the process of retiring a Mac tower and moving operations over to a Macbook.

I regularly sync my calendar, contacts and bookmarks between the tower and the Macbook. in the past, I've synced the iPod via iTunes on the tower. Now I want to sync the iPod with those same functions (calendar, contacts, bookmarks) but via the laptop. when I attach the iPod to the laptop, iTunes on the laptop does not see it.

Do I need to somehow de-authorize the tower and authorize the laptop?

Thanks.

Okay, I "authorized" the laptop to work with the iTunes store. Still does not see my device. Grrrrrr....

Installed latest iTunes and all seemed to be well (recognized iPod). But then the syncing never completed. Restart, and now back to square one. iPod not recognized. Damn, this is frustrating.

What version of the OS?

Have you updated your iPod's firmware recently?

'Any of this helpful?

Ya know, there's a reason one shouldn't embark on these kinds of missions late at night, in a hurry. Now in the light of day I suspect I've screwed things up pretty well.

The laptop is running 10.5.8. iTunes is 9.0.1. Software Update shows nothing newer for iTunes.

The iPod's firmware was updated a couple of weeks ago, but that was via a connection to the tower.

Thanks for the link to the support page, but unfortunately I can't get as far as the laptop asking if I want to sync.

Are there any prefs I should trash in order to get a fresh start with iTunes on the laptop?

Update: now syncing when the device is connected DIRECTLY to the laptop. Maybe the hub is to blame.

Or maybe it's working because I got some sleep and am not quite as daft as I must have been last night.

I had something similar happen to me. My little girl's nano was synced to the wife's macbook and when i wanted to start using it on the tower it wouldn't work. For whatever reason. So I since I had all the info from the ipod on one or the other computer, I just erased the ipod (in disk utility) and reformatted in itunes (on the tower). Its worked like a champ ever since.
