coke just did this too -- they have those little "short" half size coke cans that were 8oz and 100 calories
![]() now they are taller and skinnier -- and 7.5 oz... and 90 calories ![]()

Yogurt cups 10 years ago: 12oz
Yogurt cups 5 years ago: 6 oz Yogurt cups today: 4oz And milk products are subsidized in this country, yet the price keeps going up.

maybe it's just as well that I've developed lactose intolerance and am not eating ice cream anymore...
I was hoping you had some good news about going to Safeway. I actually had a little bonus last time I shopped. I had loaded some of those e-coupons into my store card and forgot about it. When I picked up some Bisquick on my last trip I got 60 cents off - no muss, no fuss, no paper coupon.

Anyone else noticed that coupons of late have gotten scarce on many items. I used to always have two or three $1 off coupons for Kelloggs or Post cereals... now I'm lucky to find one every 3 months (even less often for adult cereals). General Mills has gone to $1 off if you buy three boxes to combat store BOGO sales. Same with many other products.
My food bill has gone up around 25% in the last year with no change in buying habits.

I actually returned something to the store a couple weeks back because it was too expensive.
Butter. 1lb of butter was $6.50. A few weeks prior it was $4. I was in a hurry, thought I didn't remember the old price correctly. Thought about it the next day and returned it. This was at a Kroger store. Went to Whole Foods and the same butter was a few dollars cheaper there. There's some insane price gouging taking place between that store and the nearest Safeway. Like 2lbs of cheese at most stores it $5.99. At these two they often want over $10 and the Kroger one wants $13.49 as their regular price. Another Kroger store under a different name a few miles away wants $5.99, regular price, no card. The cheese is normally $10.99 or so with a card "on sale." I can't believe Whole Foods is so much cheaper than Safeway or the nearest Kroger.

The "Grocery Shrink Ray" as they call it over at Consumerist.com. I always shop by unit price too; I don't really care about the size as long as the price is right.

Just think, in a few months they can go back to the original 16 oz (or whatever) size and call it a super size and we will buy thinking it's a great deal. As someone else pointed out, bestards.:villagers:
