What's the big deal about a Retina Display?

Yes, and to clarify (and with respect to the name, Retina Display) the resolution is so fine that the pixels can't be seen by the human eye. You'd literally need a loop, or a magnifying glass, to detect pixels. That's the breakthrough that Apple is promoting. .

Jobs' claim was that you wouldn't see the pixels if it was held 10"-12" from your face. Even that is bogus -- it would have to be more like 500 pixels per inch at that distance. I don't know who ever said you'd need a loupe to see the pixels, certainly not Steve Jobs.

I'm one of those people who continually desire higher resolution (and I don't have an iPhone 4 to slobber over) so an iPad with this sort of display may convince me to spend a lot of money for something I really don't need.

speaking of high resolution, I've yet to make the HDTV jump since I find the models are still lacking in resolution although they're a big improvement to a standard def TV. I want more!
