Yeah, I remember in my college days in a northern plains state, below zero temps weren't uncommon, and of course, we all parked our cars outside. My roommate had a big old Ford LTD that would always start, regardless...which was a mixed blessing, since he ended up spending all day jumping other people's cars. Mine was good down to about zero, but below that, it was unlikely to start, jump or no.

PS - I just remembered, one day this girl who was a classmate of mine discovered her oil was low - apparently not unusual, as she carried extra oil in the car - and when she went to add some of that, it _was_ like taffy, on account of the cold.

You're a kid - what do you do? We just pushed as many globs of the stuff as we could into the engine's oil hole and hoped for the best.
