Airport Extreme Time Machine Questions
#1
Airport extreme simultaneous dual band (latest model AFAIK). I formatted a 1 TB drive using GUID partition scheme, plugged it into USB port of Airport Extreme, and now Time Machine back up to this drive. All good so far.

I would like to ask you folks if I can also have my wife's MacBook back up to the same drive, as far as I can tell, Time Machine creates a disk image (sparse bundle) for my PowerBook, and I think it will create a separate spare-bundle for her MacBook, so in theory they can share the same drive. right? Wrong?

Also, this drive is huge compared to how much we need to back up; my drive is 160 GB and her drive is 320 GB. So there would be plenty of space left on the network drive. Can I also store some other files on this drive (in addition to the 2 sparse bundles mentioned above). Would that interfere to the time machine operation?

The reason is that I would like to compact the file storage on a single drive and use the remaining drives for off-site backup (my office).

Thanks, and have a wonderful Sunday (and stay warm!)

Correct.

No, no problem but keep in mind that over time, TM backups will expand with incremental data.
