progressive: did they ever tell you prices for 3 other insurance companies?

Progressive's 'match' price varies wildly. I've gotten bogus matches. Shop for insurance yourself. I've had Progressive since '06... they're HQ'ed in my area, so I'm kind of buying local.

I went with Progressive a few years ago and have been very satisfied. I routinely check rates and they always seem the least expensive here in Ohio. I've got my home owners ins with them now as well so that gives me additional discounts.

i've been with GEICO for almost 30 years. no complaints. my car was damaged in a parking lot a few years ago and the driver was insured by Progressive. i was definitely impressed with how the Progressive agent handled the claim and followed up afterwards. because of that experience, if GEICO ever pissed me off i would at least look into Progressive.

In my experience it is cheaper getting quotes online. Some of the bigger companies offer discounts when ordering online, because it is less work for them. But to be safe you could compare quotes online, pick the best offer and try a local agency to see if they can match it or do better.

I recommend this site for online comparing: http://www.quotes-center.com/auto-insurance-calculator

I don't need car insurance. Never use it.

I have Amica homeowner's and they couldn't even get close to Progressive's price for auto. I have switched companies several times in the last few years to maintain a low rate, including switching back to Progressive two or three times. In my un-scientific study, Progressive jacks my rate some 20% or more after the first 6 month period. Go with a competitor for a year, call Progressive again, low rate again. Seems like a lame shell game but my analysis could be off, of course.

About 10 years ago I got rear ended on the freeway. Driver claimed it was my fault. He started kicking his car, I took pictures. His insurance co was Progressive. They had someone come look at my car the next day. She said it was my fault. I called them up and argued with them. They said she should have never said that. But later they still claimed it was my fault.

My insurance company got copies of the pictures and sued Progressive for insurance fraud. Not sure how it turned out, but I never had to pay anything.

One person I know has Progressive. They were side swiped on the freeway. The person that hit them had Progressive. Police report said the other driver was at fault. Progressive disagreed, said it was 50/50. The difference was it forced both people to pay their deductibles. I thought that was a pretty dirty trick.
