Looking for an NAS box - Buffalo CS-WX1.0/1D CloudStor for $99
#1
BUFFALO CS-WX1.0/1D CloudStor Dual-Bay Cloud Accessible Storage and Media Sharing Device Use Promo Code: EMCYTZT595

I'm interested because I'm now simply sharing a USB drive over my network. This device would be useful but reviews are spotty, especially relating to speed and the supposed need to always go through Pogoplug rather than directly across your personal network. Anyone researched this more and learned anything additional? I keep updates to applications that I downloaded and get them from my shared drive rather than DL-ing on each computer, but if I can't access this directly over my network, that will negate the speed advantage of my current method. Reviews seem so-so but some Amazon comments seem to indicate software/firmware changes are bringing improvements.
Might be worth the gamble…

Here's another - looks like everybody is on the sell our NAS devices today bandwagon. LG N2R1D 2 Bay Super-Multi Network Attached Storage with DVD ReWriter

And yet another. Netgear ReadyNAS Duo NAS Enclosure

Since I'm not terribly interested in (local) cloud storage it appears the better one is the LG, but I didn't find any real reviews on it - only on another model that was for LG N2R1DD2 (which includes drive(s) at Newegg.

Ol,

Not sure about cloud storage but the features of the ReadNAS Duo make it worth the extra bucks over the Buffalo model. The X-RAID tech alone is a huge feature!

That was kinda my second choice (or not) but the Buffalo does come with a 1TB HDD while the ReadNAS is bare. Then there is the LG. Hmmmm. No CLEAR winner, methinks unless you play least risk and buy the Buffalo - you can always recover nearly $50 value from the drive if it turns out to be less than useful. And I have a pile of less than useful devices laying around.

OTOH, I've been looking for quite a while and making do with my USB share off my Mini - which in on 24/7 so…
