Sherwood Schwartz, the comedy writer and producer who created "Gilligan's Island" and "The Brady Bunch," which have remained two of the most enduringly popular TV series in worldwide syndication, died Tuesday morning. He was 94.

Schwartz, who began his more than six-decade career by writing gags for Bob Hope's radio show in 1939, died of natural causes at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, said his son Lloyd.

Hm, Lloyd. I wonder if that is Lloyd from Boston. If so, I met him many years ago; he's a poet and he's an occasional classical music critic.

It was revealed that the Professor on Gilligan's Island was Mrs. Brady's first husband and the father of the three girls:

It is revealed that Carol’s first husband, Roy Martin was lost at sea and presumed dead. This is how Carol came to be a widow and married Mike. At the climax of the movie, we learn that Trevor was responsible for the boat carrying Roy and Dr. Whitehead’s son, Gilligan’s demise. We are then told that Carol’s first husband was The Professor on Gilligan’s Island. The problem is, on Gilligan’s Island, The Professor’s name is Roy Hinkley and not Roy Martin.
