so, how much crappier is Toast 11 than Toast 6?
#1
I need to purchase a copy of toast for an office computer. I have Toast 6 running just fine on my computer at home on 10.6, I like it, it meets my basic needs for CD/DVD burning without any unnecessary junk...but, since I can't purchase v6 anymore, thought I'd go for the current version 11. Any complaints with it that I should be aware of? I really don't care about or need any of the features other than CD audio burning, burning Video_TS folders to DVD, and some DVD duplication. I'm not going to use any of the video editing/dvd authoring features at all, as I already have software that handles that.

Any reason v11 wouldn't fit the bill for me?

No experience post Toast 8 here. Some non-Toast ideas:

Try DVD Imager or iDVD for turning VIDEO_TS folders into burnable disk images. With the former you get a .dmg but just change the filename extension to .iso prior to burning with Disk Utility. And there may be alternatives to that app. Be advised both DVD Imager and iDVD are on the way out.

RipIt for copying DVDs, iTunes or some other freeware for handling CDs.

I've noticed very little difference except the add-ins, since Toast 7.

There are probably lots of people who have Toast 8-11 that have Toast 6 lying around. I think I have 5 somewhere.

I have Toast 11. Got it for the Blu-ray burning capabilities.

One thing I've noticed (I had been using v9 prior) is that, when burning regular DVDs, it no longer seems able to sense what speed the media is rated to, and if you leave the selection as "Best", it often only burns at like 4x. You have to manually check the rated media speed in order to get it to burn at that rate. I usually forget until it's already started.

The program itself seems a little slower to start up too.

I downloaded a free program "Burn" (V 2.5.1) but have yet to use it. It received decent user reviews, perhaps someone here has.

The interface is one of the biggest turds I've ever seen, but overall it's not much worse than Toast 6 once you figure out the extra steps it takes to do all but the most simple tasks with it.
