MacKeeper, go away!

Reading the Apple Discussions thread, it seems pretty clear it's a pop-under or similar, which Safari's pop-up blocker won't prevent. Posters there report that GlimmerBlocker works to prevent such things.

There's also a recommendation for NoScript for Firefox users and instructions for removing the virus app & its support files if you accidentally install it.

If you are receiving a boatload of repetitive ads, you may have an evercookie on your machine. In addition to being able to hide in the Flash folders, they may live in the HTML5 local storage folder. Locate the below folder and delete unwanted contents; this folder may have some legitimate purpose, but I've yet to see it, and I really don't like the way that so many of these databases don't properly show up in Safari's security panel's "Show databases" dropdown. I went ahead and locked the folder to prevent any more databases being stored.

Hello guys,

I'm with Zeobit LLC, the developers of MacKeeper, and would like to apologize for our rather aggressive behavior. We've taken into consideration what you think and are on the way of changing our ads campaign. As for the ads themselves, they are offered by the websites you visit, and approved by them.

Speaking about removing the app from the computer, MacKeeper has its own uninstaller and the manual you can find here - http://help.mackeeper.zeobit.com/Manual/...eeper.html

Sorry again for having bothered you, and would appreciate hearing what you think about the way our app works - as it has 15-days full-functional trial. You are helping us to change our marketing strategy, so it would be great if you can express what you would like to be improved in the app as well.

Regards, Sana Paul

I can't believe no one replied to SanaPaul!

With all due respect, if you seriously want my opinion, you have GOT to stop what you describe as your company's "rather aggressive behavior"!!! I don't care whether a site has approved an ad or not, it's up to you guys to present a more professional, respectful front. In other words, back off, as you are offending Mac users by the thousands.

As for the way your app works? I haven't tried it myself, but I'm a Mac consultant, and EVERY ONE of my clients that has tried your software has decided to (or attempt to) uninstall it within a week. Just like your ads, the program itself is apparently so intrusive that it drives users crazy in no time at all.

Thanks for listening!

Sincerely,
John
