Birthday gift ideas for a 20-something woman

I don't know where you work, but this, to me, is exactly why it might not be appropriate. If you do something with your other co-worders, or some of them, as a group, okay. Or perhaps you maintain a relationship outside of work with this person, in that case, don't involve work at all. Even if this is not an untoward advance toward your friend, it can be perceived as such by other coworkers, and those appearances should be avoided if possible.

True-- which is why, as far as I'm concerned, it's between me and her as friends and really nobody else's business. To answer your other question though, she is not the only coworker with whom I am friends, however, and for whom I have previously gotten birthday gifts.
