Anybody know where I can find IDE -> Firewire backplanes?
#1
I'm looking for just the bridge card that plugs into an IDE drive on one end, and has a Firewire port out on the other end. It's the part in the back of an external case, but I only need the conversion card, not the power supply or case itself (I want to put several of them in a larger case, on the cheap).

Anybody know where I can find these? I haven't been able to locate any vendors who sell to "regular people," just a couple that will only sell to OEMs.

I don't think anyone here has ever seen them any cheaper than just buying a cheap case and pulling out the board. They are usually in the $40-60 range. Cheap cases can be found just under $30.

Best I've seen for dual drive ones is on ebay:

I bought a Miglia Firewire Bridge board from our host, OWC, specifically made to retrofit an old SCSI case... screw spacing and everything just right to pull out the old SCSI connector on the case, screw on the Firewire board, and plug the power supply in the SCSI case into it.

Works GREAT.
$65 as I recall.

It WOULD be cheaper to buy a $30-40 case and pull the bridge board out, but if you're retrofitting an old SCSI case, you might save some hassle having the thing already ready to screw in.

Hope this helps!

Here's the cheapest dualy that I've found.

But as everyone has said, a case is cheaper.

Thanks for all the tips. With cases going for about $23 at monoprice.com, I'm guessing everybody here is right when they say, "just buy cases."
