hey, where's my tape measure...! I had three of them and now I have none

I say the same thing about computer and a/v cables. I _always_ have a slew of the cables I don't need when I start a given task and never find the one I actually need until I've bought a replacement or borrowed one from someone. And, when I no longer need the cable, it magically appears in my box 'o cables. I swear, the cables know exactly what kind of cable I need for the task and mutate on the spot into the wrong cable, just to annoy me.

This recently happened when I needed a Firewire 800 to Firewire 800 cable. Found USB cables of all types. Found Firewire 800 to Firewire 400 cables. Found Firewire 400 to Firewire 400 cables. I even found an ADB cable. Did I find the Firewire 800 to Firewire 800 cable? No. Fortunately, the Firewire 800 to Firewire 400 cable got the job done, albiet more slowly. I found the Firewire 800 to Firewire 800 cable after the task was finished.

I keep a couple in the Craftsman box, and three more around the house.

Now if I could find a "laser" tape measure to use around the house, I wouldn't keep dragging the others around.
