VGA LCD fuzzy/washed out with mini/MacBook, but not G4 iMac
#1
Hi,

I have a 17" HP LCD that I bought way back when the price was around $450 (ouch).

Anyway, when I used to have a G4 mini, the display looked fuzzy and washed out (you may remember that the G4 minis initially had lots of user-reported problems regarding poor quality image with various monitors (VGA and DVI if I remember correctly)).

Then, when I had a G4 iMac (17", 1.25 GHz, USB 2.0), I spanned the desktop (using the hack) and the image looked great...sharp, crisp, clear and bright.

Now, I have a MacBook (white, 2.0 GHz). I bought the mini-DVI to VGA adapter from the Apple store yesterday and proceeded to hook up the MacBook to the VGA LCD. Bam! Same problems I was having with the mini recurred. The image looks blurry/washed out/faint and just plain old blah. The image on the MacBook, however, is awesome.

I tried changing the settings: mirror only, extended desktop, I changed the resolution on the HP LCD, on the MacBook, on both at the same time, etc., etc., but to no avail.

Anybody know what's up with this?

I understand that my LCD is VGA, so it shouldn't put out as crisp an image as a DVI LCD, but it doesn't make sense that the image looked great with the G4 iMac, but pathetic with the G4 mini and now with the MacBook.

Thanks!

go into the Displays settings and calibrate the colors for the LCD...

Calibration didn't help at all! I think it made it worse.
