- increased reliability
- decreased weight
- improved the mechanical stiffness and feel
- improved battery life
- lowered noise levels
- lowered heat levels
- freed up room to provide better audio
...of the computer.

Pretty good set of benefits for what is, for most people, an irrelevant drawback.
