recommendation on refrigerator
#31
That GE design is basically a clone of the Amana we last had. Those two big bins are nice for cabbage heads but too much gets lost in there IMO. Reaching into the freezer often meant doing it from the knees. The swing door freezers usually have a bottom bin that slides out but it's not the same as conveniently having it in the drawer door, particularly if you can't swing the door open all the way to pull the bin out. Our kitchen is setup to have the fridge in a corner, which means that for a full size model the doors could never be fully opened unless perhaps you have a side-by-side or french doors.

Today I'd go for that Kenmore regardless of install location. Back when I was last looking a couple years ago, only Samsung or LG had drawer freezers for their single door models. Can't say who made that one shown here.

If you really want bisque, do it with lower financial risk, because next month one of your existing bisque appliances may die and you'll wish you didn't have to then hunt bisque down again. (Wait for something to show up on craigslist.)

I have to admit I'm not super impressed with my two options that I found. We are planning to either build a home or remodel a home in about 7-8 years. I think since the appliances all work and match that I'll hold off until then and get exactly what I want without compromising. Good opportunity to switch from bisque to something else that has more options. Besides, I keep telling my wife we don't need a bigger fridge, we just need to put less inside it. You can imagine how that goes over. ;-)

lg with french doors hands down. check if your utility company has a credit to haul it away. mine paid $60 bucks a fridge/freezer. also look at the energy webstar site for any rebates as well. it can add up.

I have a smaller version of that Kenmore you pictured and like it a lot. It replaced an older top-freezer model and I was so glad to get the bottom drawer-style freezer--it suits our needs much better. The deli-drawer that you see beneath the vegetable bins is really handy.

BTW, I believe that one was made by Whirlpool. My criteria for choosing it were pretty specific, because I needed it to be a certain size to fit in the existing space, and wanted a bottom freezer that pulled out, not a door.

Good luck with whatever you choose! Smile
