Have this Compaq Presario CQ57 that is dead
#1
I took the battery out, and had it unplugged and pressed the power button for 15 seconds.

Then I plugged the power adapter in, without the battery. ANd hit the power button. Still nothing.

Then I measured the voltage on the end of the adapter (OUTPUT), reads 13.6 volts on my digital meter, on the 20 scale.

From my reading and what is written on the black box part of adapter it suppose to be 18.5 volts.

Would this be the cause of a dead computer?

Thanks

It should still charge albeit more slowly. Have you considered jumping it with your car? It is a PC afterall.

Could be the reason. Get a hold of another charger and plug that sucker in. A standard dell charger should work... Temporarily that is.

Was this a wallyworld special? My mom got one for one of my nephews and he tore it apart.
