Looking for a simple LED array or single bulb as an "indicator" light
#1
I have a simple problem I'm looking to solve with some sort of simple LED lighting setup.

Person A sits in one location, while person B sits in another location, maybe 100 feet away out of the line of direct sight of each other. Person A needs to be able to send a simple, silent, signal that Person B can easily see. I'm thinking that if I use a 100' extension cord with a switch of some sort at the Person A end, and some sort of light at the other end (Person B end), that would suffice. There will be an electrical plug that Person A can plug into, but other than that, the setup will need to be portable.

So, what first comes to mind is some sort of LED setup...maybe a small array of LED's using similarly sized bulbs as Christmas lights. The LED's wouldn't need to provide powerful light, but instead just need to be easily visible to Person B. That's my reasoning for saying this should be an LED solution, but there's no reason a small incandescent or compact fluorescent or some other small specialty bulb couldn't be used. It's just that we really don't need a ton of light output.

One possible real-world application that is easily understood where this sort of setup would be useful is in either a TV studio or Audio recording studio where the control room might be out of sight of where the actors/musicians are getting ready to record. If they see that the light is on, that means the mics and cameras are recording. Something like that is what I'm looking for.

Should I just get a simple lamp, screw in a low-wattage LED (like this: http://www.amazon.com/HitLights-AffordVI...13?ie=UTF8&qid=1365728984&sr=8-13&keywords=led+light ) and hook the lamp up to the extension cord with a simple power strip that can be switched on and off? Or is there a better solution out there? Let's assume I already have the extension cord and power strip...what should I get for a light?

How about a WeMo? No wires, but requires the person with the switch to be in a cellphone data zone and the person seeing the light to be at an outlet and in a WiFi network. With those conditions, no range limitations.

Hmmm...I don't think I can count on there being Wifi in all situations where this setup would be used. Cool device, though.

I have two of these that I use for specific purposes - they work great - $42.00 - has a rated 450ft range. It is a very versatile device.

You can just silence it and have the light flash for the indicator:

A "trouble light" sounds appropriate.
Use an LED bulb if you want or simply a very low wattage incandescent bulb.
The cage and hook will come in handy for protection and versatility in deployment.
