Is this a good deal? CL MBP

What do you think? Would you buy it without HD?

It has AppleCare according to the title... Still unclear if that means remaining warranty or the real 2 year additional warranty. I am not in the market for a MBP but I am tempted to write and ask for details

I think $700 is a good price. I consider that laptop in very good shape, in tact to be worth $800. If it really has applecare, then it's a good deal imo.

$700 is OK. You need to check the serial number with apple.com to see how much applecare is left. As for the hard drive, be aware that Apple often balks at doing repair work on in-warranty computers with a non-OEM components, including hard drives. Or at a minimum, tends to blame problems on the non-OEM parts.

Apple will not blame a blown inverter on a 3rd party hard drive, but if you have a 3rd party LCD, then perhaps. But I've brought in dozens of computers with 3rd party hard drives for work and it is not a factor. Unless perhaps you're there because the SATA cable was ruined when you installed the HD.

Since both RAM and hard drives are listed as user-replaceable on the Macbook Pros, this should not be a problem.

I just wanted to point out that in my experience with AppleCare (G4 MBP & i7 MBP), if the machine has a non-Apple component and the problem is being diagnosed, Apple (once in a store and once "mail to Dallas" service center) has balked at doing repair (or anymore repair work) on it until the original drive (or memory) was put back in. I should have said that it would be better if the seller backed off his data and sold it with the original hard drive. Just my experience with AppleCare.

PS: I did install the non-OEM drive myself (purchase from our forum sponsors OWC), and don't think I crimped the cable. I can only imagine what Apple would have said if that had happened!

I will also say that Apple did a repair for me once (replacing a warped motherboard) and did me the "favor" of replacing my 16gb of OWC memory (macbook pro dual i5) with 4gb of their own memory. The exchange happened at a service center in Texas and by the time I got the machine back and made a complaint..... the response was that they had looked for it and could not find it. They also forgot to "burn" an Apple serial number into the motherboard PARM (or where ever this info goes), so it required being sent back to Texas for two weeks. Arrrgh.
