T-Mobile free data for tablets
#1
Is this a big deal? I know it's not very much data, but coupled with T-Mobile's by-the-day or by-the-month data plans, it seems like this could be appealing to those who are only occasionally out of WiFi range. On the road between cities, for example.

What's keeping users from having a dozen SIM cards and just switching when one runs over the cap?

good question. I looked glanced at the announcement and it seems that you have to buy one of their devices (Google or Samsung). I think you only get one of these SIM cards when you buy one of those tablets. Or is there another way to get the SIM without getting the tablet? if so, I would like to put that in an iPad or iPhone.

EDIT: what I said above is wrong, I found more details here

In a move to poach customers, T-Mobile is offering the free data to people who own cellular tablets from other carriers if they buy a SIM card for $10.

It should be for any LTE tablet, you can buy a SIM card for $10 and get it for tablets you already own. But I suspect it's only for LTE devices, no 3G iPads need apply.

Sounds like they're using FreedomPop's model to attract subscribers.

Why? I'm not sure I even have LTE T-Mobile coverage at this location. Maybe if I get out of the woods.

Edit: Are there any LTE only tablets?

We are ordering two iPads this month, we may very well make both tMobile.

I learned this week that ALL of the decent data options are gone. Upgrading and/or adding a line is FAR, FAR more expensive than a Tmobile smartphone plan.

It's quite possible that the most recent iPhone purchases will be our last with AT&T.
