For those that like Fruitcake...

Homemade fruitcake is FAR superior to anything store bought.

Until it's screwed up with alcohol.

"We never eat fruit cake because it has rum
And one little taste turns a man to a bum
Oh, can you imagine a sorrier sight
Than a man eating fruit cake until he gets tight"

I like fruitcake. Of course there is good fruitcake and bad fruitcake just like there is bad steak and good steak.

For me, good fruitcake has none of those nasty candied fruit things in it.

It's my least favorite kind of cake in life. But ANY cake is better than no cake at all. I especially don't like alcohol flavors in my food. But ANY cake is better than no cake.

It's funny, there are some here to don't like fruit in their Fruitcake, and others who don't like cake in their Fruitcake, and others still who don't like alcohol in their Fruitcake.

Fruit. Cake. Alcohol. You can only have three out of any three.

(I'm adamant about Pineapple. I make a terrific Pineapple Upside Down Cake, a fine Pineapple Brown Betty, and a not bad Pineapple Sherbet. But I must admit that just spearing chunks right out of the can, and munching down until my lips sizzle, and my tongue is completely numb, is my favorite recipe.
But no Pineapple in _my_ fruitcake!)
(And no Pecans!)

The flour should basically be just a binder that holds everything together.

The more booze the better, and a fruitcake should be as dense as a neutron star.

I love pineapple, fresh or canned, especially the rings.

NO pineapple on pizza. It's a pie, not a cake, and the mention has no business in this thread, but no surprise, I couldn't help myself.
