SSDs do not seem to be as critical for windows machines (i.e. they do not seem to solve as much of an operational bottleneck as Mac OSX).

Doesn't that require the 4GB chip that never was affordable and probably never will be? Unless prices have had a major downward spike, I can't see how that would make much sense at this point for a six year old machine.

SSDs aint nuthin special on the outside, the look just like a regular platter spinning 2.5" drive =)

Ha, as luck would have it I just now found a 1 x 2 GB stick from an old HP laptop! jdc, don't be quick to bash Windows. You never know who will end up to be your friends. Didn't Bill come the rescue of Steve not too long ago? ;-) BernDog, until I could afford the greatest latest MBP, I'll stick with this one for awhile:-) Anyhow, will see how long I can keep the spinning ball from appearing at 3 Gig of RAM.

kap, 3GB RAM will be helpful.
One way to add the SSD affordably would be to go the Data Doubler route - remove the optical and replace with the hard drive, then add an inexpensive SSD to be the boot drive.

Sorry, no windows love here. :comp:
Thankful that my experience has been extremely limited. First use was a Mac Plus in 1986 and never looked back.

He could jump from 2 to 5 gigs. |
