Anyone have good or bad stories to tell about using legalzoom, Nolo, etc. web legal forms?

I've used Legalzoom for a will, Living Trust, Power of Attorney, and formation of a LLC. No problem whatsoever and reasonable prices.

Dennis,

I'm not a fan of using forms from anyone be it legalzoom, Nolo or bloomberg unless it's for a very basic transaction. Think no-brainer kind of transactions. Otherwise, spend a few bucks and get the advice of an attorney and let him/her put together the form. Not nearly as cheap but you'll know it was done correctly and covers everything necessary for the transaction.

I've used them, but I'm a lawyer....

My advice, slightly modified.

Use them as a template, write up what you want, and then have a lawyer take a look at it--that should reduce the costs. If you're really hard up, get a law student to look at it.

It's always best to get templates that are specfici to your state, if possible. Not always necessary or possible, but useful when available.

There is never a problem until there is - then you are in trouble. Most times those issues can be easily resolved. However I would get an attorney for the will, especially if there are multiple heirs. You are not going to be around to explain what you really intended.

Sorry, I should have mentioned I do have a law degree, so I did have some idea as to what to do.

Used http://www.totallegal.com/ for a Quit Claim Deed and it was perfect. Very easy and inexpensive.

We used WillMaker (Nolo owns them) to hurriedly make my MIL's will out for her to sign as she was losing consciousness at Hospice. Simple, no fuss.

I'm using WIllmaker for our own. Then I will talk to a lawyer about trusts and stuff...

We used Nolo as a template for my son's divorce and Marriage Settlement Agreement, it went smoothly with him granted sole custody, that then allowed us to rise the then 5 year old grandson who is now in college and thriving.
