An addendum - I also use my M around the house for quick and easy kid videos. Much better quality than phone video, but is still easy enough to just more or less just turn on and start shooting. The combination of face tracking, servo AF and the quiet STM motor on the lens, make it a very good option for casual family videos. It has very good video capabilities if you're into that.
The M for me fills a niche - small portable travel camera, a powerful nice-to-have-with-me camera, and casual video camera. 9 times out of 10 if one of my goals is to take pictures, I don't reach for the M I reach for the SLR. One exception is when I travel for work, I generally take the M - it's good to have around but I'm traveling to do a job, not to take pictures. So it's not worth it to take my SLR kit. On family vacations I always take the SLR.
Overall at $250 it's an unbeatable deal in its class. You won't find anything comparable at that price point.
