MR Forum Fit Club: I gained weight and chased U.S. Marines
#1
MR Forum Fit Club info:

-To encourage each other attain fitness goals, share experiences, educate and uplift each other.

-If you haven't started yet, you are welcome at anytime.

-Share as much or as little as you want with the group.

-Starting out doesn't need to be a big step, just take that step.

-You are worth it.

I believe the weight gain is muscle since I managed to regain that lost belt notch due to summer eating. I was a bit surprised to see the scale move that direction but I will view it as positive for now.

Last week: 3 upper body workouts, 3 elliptical sessions, one touch football game with some U.S. Marines. Those young guys in peak physical condition are difficult to keep up with.

Next week: Aiming for 3 upper body and 2-3 elliptical/leg workouts.

look at inches lost, not weight. As we lose fat, the result of the exercise is increased muscle mass, which is good.

I have a shooting coach/friend who is ex Navy SWCC. Built like a 5'2" fireplug. No fat, all muscle. Currently a mail man. He weighs more than I do, and I'm a few millimeters short of 6'.

When my ex-wife was trying to lose weight, she was getting frustrated and mad at hitting a plateau. However, she kept on losing inches. It took a while to get that into her head so she could realize it was what she wanted.

BTW, "Shorty" is the shortest to ever graduate from training at Coronado as far as we know.

Rats. A dislocated hip put a crimp in my exercise program. I only managed to get in 2 workouts before the crap hit the fan. If all goes as expected, I will start again tomorrow. My food intake is down, not a lot but down. My goal is to loose 25 kilos.

Down to below 198 this week, and have one belt notch moving towards needing a hole.

My wife is now talking about biking, which is even better news !

Hope you have a speedy recovery on that hip thing. Doesn't sound fun.

Everyone, good job and keep at it.

Weekend diet was a bad backslide...
But back to the treadmill for the first time in weeks now that my "school-year schedule" has resumed.

Small steps forward... trying to avoid big steps backwards.

As of today, I've lost about 25 lbs. in five months. 238 to 213. I'm about 5' 8" and I just turned 50.

My method: eggs only for breakfast (mix in a little chicken meat or cheddar occasionally).

Walk 1.5-3 miles a day. Even if I'm running late, I will walk a half mile just to reinforce the habit. Starting to work in some jogging and considering the Couchto5K thing.

Pay attention to calories and portions at lunch and dinner, but don't deny myself anything I really want. Avoid bread and pasta unless it's really homemade and a special treat.

Don't drink alcohol absentmindedly. If there's a real, social reason to enjoy a glass of wine, have a half glass. Or drink liquor with no mixers.

Oh, and my other secret: I swear this makes a difference! Cold-Brew Coffee. I'm a coffee snob and love good beans. I've started drinking the bottled stuff (*my favorite is Slingshot Coffee out of Raleigh). No need for cream or sugar (another calorie cut) no Splenda (who knows what it does to your body) and it increases my metabolism all day long. I cut it with water to reduce the caffeine - it's like a more invigorating iced tea.
