intermittent problem with Uniden cordless phone
#1
Recently replaced the battery for a Uniden DCT648-2 cordless handset.

While the phone still works, there is an intermittent buzz coming from the handset. My working assumption is that the replacement battery is just a bit thicker, and the increased pressure on the electronics were causing the buzz.

Swapped batteries with the other handset. The intermittent buzzing continues with the same handset (the same handset that exhibited the problem).

Any thoughts as to an easy (cheap) fix? It seems like this may be another situation of planned obsolescence, and it will be easier to just buy a new phone system.

Is the buzz better when you are next to the base station ? If so, there may be interference. If not, the problem is in the handset.

If the handset, is the problem better or worse when you apply a few technical knocks ? (In other words, whack it on a table a few times). If so, then there was / is a loose connection. If not, something else is wrong.

If something else is wrong, you can start disassembly. Or give up and buy a new set.

Proximity to the base station doesn't seem to influence the buzz.

I removed four screws and put them back, not as tightly as they were before. That seems to help. Will leave the handset in the charging station for a while and test again.

I have a buzz going right now. El Dorado rum—the world's best sipping rum.

You can usually find some extra handsets on eBay. I had to wait awhile on my older unit, but I set a search to email me.
