Pull out that iPad charger and use it when you need to get recharged fast.
I'm amazed at how quickly my new iPhone will charge - it's very, very quick in absolute time despite being a large capacity battery.
This is one of those under-documented features as Apple only includes the lower wattage, standard charger as stock.

Yes, apple should have included a more appropriate charger. They included a small charger with the original iPad mini.

Undocumented, but known to those us with both iPhones and iPads for years now. You don't need an iPhone 6 to benefit from a 2.1A charger. Even your 10 yr old iPod or iPhone 4 will zoom right up.

I may run a test and measure.
It would be interesting to know the results.
I can't remember where, but I know I read somewhere that not all iDevices (by that I mean Apple iron) benefit from hi-cap charging. There was no how/why mentioned.
Maybe it had something to do with internal charging management. I have an app call Battery Doctor that shows three stages of charging for my iP3 and 5s-
High Speed > Continuation > Trickle.
Or maybe it's just something to do with a given battery's ability to be charged based on internal resistance, whatever.
Whether or not what I read is true, I buy MFi chargers that with two USB ports that will deliver 2.1A each.

I bought a couple of these when they were $13 each:

As I type this on my iPad I am connected to one of them in my Mexico City hotel room. My iPhone and iPod are connected to two of the other ports.
