Bat problem - any solution?
#11
I had bats in the attic once.
Left the lights on, but they seemed content to be in the shadows in the peak.
Watched at dusk as they flew out. (there were five or six)There was a slight bow in an attic window frame. (Those old window vents are now gone) At dusk the next night when they flew out again that window got sealed off.
They found a new home.

Bats are good to have around.
They gorge on those EEE and West NIle infested mosquitos. :-)

You don't want them living in your house, though.
Any more than you want to share your house with mice. (at least the bats don't walk around on your knives and forks at night.)

They do sometimes swoop down on you if you're standing in the middle of a clearing. Rare to land on your head. But it does happen. What seems to them to be a good spot to rest, is not. Or, they could be homing in on the bugs that are flying around you.

Jim, If it were my deck I'd be pleased to have him and his bat-pals around. But, for some good info on bat mitigation: Bat Conservation International.

There's information on excluding bats from you home, bats and rabies, and building bat houses (which they might like better than your deck).
