Another wonderful day of picture taking down on the river
#1
I'm kinda getting back into the swing of getting out and moving around now that spring is springing. I'm planning some ambitious backpacking this year so I've gotta lose a few pounds and get the legs in shape. Went to the river and did my usual loop around the pond and just as I was turning to go back toward home, I saw a coyote and went after him for quite a while.

But first, I went to check on the rookery and it seems just fine. I was sure that the lower simply had no head...

Reflection of the nesting trees

A crazed cormorant - the coots pass nervously by...

A turtle rises from the murk...

a very distant hare...

nice little shorebird...

and a smaller one (what are those DP?)

A Golden Eye (right?) just after popping out of the water

aHA! I just managed to spot this guy just a few feet from where I saw a baby coyote a few years ago. Could it be the same guy all grown up? I'll never know, but I was very proud of myself when I was unable to follow the guy through the brush - I broke off contact and went far around and reacquired him TWICE. I think I could have found him again, but it was REALLY time to go home now - it's really dark. The pics are barely adequate.

Saw this little bunny on the way out...

...and several deer too

I'm not sure if following a coyote around is a great idea.

Maybe if it was a mountain lion...

First pic is a Greater Yellowlegs (Tringa melanoleuca) in breeding plumage. The next is a Lesser Yellowlegs (Tringa flavipes).
Yep! The duck is a female Common Goldeneye (Bucephala clangula)
It'll be another month here before we see any migrating birds around. Nice pix as always...
