MIL iMac caught in power surge
#1
Last night her continuing care facility had a power surge and this morning her iMac won't start up. Any suggestions? It was an older machine tho I don't remember the particulars; she lives in NC and I in IN so I can't do any hands on.
Thanks for any help.

Unplug it and let it sit for an hour or two. Before you plug it back in hold the power button down for 10 seconds then release. Wait another hour and then plug it in and turn it back on, but make sure you aren't holding the power button down as you plug it in.

Update:
Thanks, C, I have told her to try that if it happens again but she "plugged it into a different location on the surge breaker and it works for now!" I told her to get a new surge protector - this one has given up the ghost in service to her mac.

The surge protector protected her from a surge. How quaint.

some surge protectors have a reset button. might be worth checking that out.

But yeah, good for MIL that she was protected.
