Ideas on where to buy cheap SD cards or thumb drives? 1GB, 2GB 4GB? and ideas for music in car
#1
I'm thinking about the stereo in my car. It has a modern, but not up to date music system. 2010. It has bluetooth and connects to my car for phone services ok, but only does music through direct connection and it's pretty crappy. I can load a playlist and it will play from beginning to end with no ability to pause. And I'm warned in bright red letters to NOT keep the phone plugged in when starting the car. I'm afraid that I might kill it by forgetting.

On the other hand, I can plug something into the USB port and pause by turning it off - it'll start up in place when it restarts. I kinda like the idea of having different collections on different drives/cards. I have a few 8GB cards that I can use for large collections, but really, 2GB is probably ideal.

Where can I find cheap cards/thumb drives that you recommend?

I started a similar thread just a few days ago for a car stereo in my brother's truck (where it gets used by a few people). although I was/am looking for cheap 64gb drives, as I think that is the sweet spot.

for 4gb, I think those things should cost about $0.99 now but, of course, they do not. that has always been a mystery to me, if there are a bunch sitting in a warehouse somewhere.

I had a relatable problem, I needed tons of MicroSD cards of unimportant size for use in my music boxes.

While it's true you can find cards everywhere for nothing.. Shipping often kills any potential deal. Let's see, one card for a penny plus $8 shipping... 10 cards for 8 pennies and... $80 shipping! There's also the problem of disreputable vendors, fake cards, etc.

I eventually settled on BuyDig for 4 x 4GB Samsung MicroSD cards for $12. These can of course be made to fit an SD slot with a simple adapter.

If you find something MicroSD for cheaper that isn't a gamble, I'd love to hear about it.

You didn't happen to find any regular SD cards, did you? I'm running into the same issue. I want a 1 or 2GB SD card for an old digicam, but the SDHC ones don't work in it. And the regular SD cards are often $6-12 in shipping.

Search ebay for 'lot 2gb sd' - I'm finding lots of small, low priced lots.

Didn't know DMS was still around. Nice to know... but I was wanting DIRT cheap, not just inexpensive :-)

I guess you missed my thread yesterday for a 1 day sale (partly the reason for the flash title), 128 GB for $32.

If you can stand them, sign up for Fry's daily email spam. You should get a deal on the size you want in a couple of weeks.

Edit: They had a new 20 Watt car stereo for $30 the same day, in case you wanted to get something a little newer.

Edit 2: You can keep all the files on one thumb drive. Just put the music you want to play in the root directory and everything else in folders.

No, I saw your thread, but I'm not looking for 128gb drives - navigating these things through the car stereo is a PAIN.

Add some "add on items" on Amazon with your next order over $25
$3.99. http://www.amazon.com/MicroSDHC-Class-Me..._1_45?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1427596360&sr=1-45&keywords=SD+card

The Grimm Ninja found the best deal so far.
