I just got a new AmEx card with that chip thingamajig on it. Hope it works good.

But, I also just got a hotel points Chase MasterCard. No problems, but it got me to thinking...it was THAT easy to get a card?? All I needed was my SS number, etc. I was in. Of course it was me, but it seems anybody who has someone else's SS number could have gotten the same card that easy. Wha' say ye all?

Um. Yes. Do you not listen to the news? LOL!

The card companies are definitely stepping up their fraud prevention.

Stepping up prevention is one thing, but doing it in a useful manner, as Mr. D points out, is really accomplishing something much more useful to the customer, and not just the issuer.

Citi called me yesterday about a transaction. It was a legitimate purchase, less than $200. Makes me wonder if there's been another massive breach that has not been made public. I've been a bit nervous since the Anthem thing.

For such a small (in the scheme of things) purchase, it does make you wonder. But there might have been a random a confluence of factors that just happened to tingle their Spidey sense.

dmann, turn around so I can give ye a good swift kick :bat:Confusedmiley-laughing001:

I knew all the above mess, but was still surprised a bit. I keep our credit reports locked, so I thought Chase would require me to unlock, but they didn't. That's the part that surprised me. Couple years ago, some jerk got my credit number, just the number, and spent about $2,000 (two different times of $1,000 each) hundreds of miles from me. I think it was sold to some other jerk.

Anyway, hey, I'm for Apple Pay.

I was declined at a register at my local supermarket. I spent a ridiculously long time trying to call Citi-- turns out there was a text alert at the moment I was declined that gave me the option of clearing the freeze by text. Not sure who they think is holding their phone in their hand watching for incoming texts while trying to pay for groceries, but next time I'll know to check it at least...

Or you'll be able to check your watch.
